Falsetto singer Dane Fujiwara to perform free concert

By Staff | Jun 25, 2015

In 2009, Dane Fujiwara won the Kindy Sproat Falsetto and Storytelling Contest on Hawaii Island. He also competed in Maui’s Festivals of Aloha Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Ki‘eki‘e Falsetto Contest.

LAHAINA – A superb falsetto singer with an outstanding vocal range, Dane Fujiwara will perform at Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s free monthly Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, June 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the Baldwin Home Museum lawn at the corner of Dickenson and Front streets in Lahaina.

Fujiwara was born and raised on Maui and graduated from Kamehameha Schools Kapalama on Oahu.

His natural talent and love for Hawaiian music was strengthened by studying under some of Hawaii’s finest artists, including Hoku Zuttermeister and Kuana Torres Kahele.

After graduating, he continued to develop his skills, sharing the stage with Hawaiian musicians Napua Greig, Kamaka Fernandez, Ikaika Blackburn and Kamakoa Lindsey Asing.

When not performing, Fujiwara teaches math at Kamehameha Schools Maui Middle School.

Limited seating is provided for kupuna; blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome.

This ongoing Hawaiian Music Series program is supported by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and county Office of Economic Development.
