LAHAINA – Residents and visitors are invited to join a bike ride in West Maui on Sunday, May 17, from 8 to 10 a.m. The ride is co-sponsored by the Maui Bicycling League, Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise and Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset.

The event is part of the Maui observance of the 60th annual National Bike Month.

Riders are asked to register at 8 a.m. at Paradise Grill at 2291 Kaanapali Parkway in Kaanapali. The ride will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last approximately 90 minutes. There is no fee to participate.

The sponsors will provide bottled water for all riders. Riders must wear helmets to participate. After the ride, participants are invited for a no-host brunch at Paradise Grill. The sponsors will provide raffle prizes at the brunch.

“This bike ride reminds us there’s a great alternative to the automobile here on Maui,” said Lee Chamberlain, co-founder of the Maui Bicycling League. “For commuting to work, and for active recreation, bicycles can be a key element of the healthy lifestyle so many are seeking on Maui.”

“We’re thrilled to co-sponsor this bike ride,” said Liz May, co-president of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset. “It’s part of our club’s ‘Go Green, Keep the Island Clean’ initiative.”
