Fundraising campaign underway for Fourth of July fireworks
LAHAINA – LahainaTown Action Committee invites the Maui community to take part in the fundraising effort for the 2015 fireworks display celebrating the Fourth of July in Lahaina.
The fundraising goal is $50,000 for the event. Currently, the committee – whose members include Joan McKelvey, Fran Mitsumura, Becky Lennon and Tambara Garrick – has $17,500 in pledges.
Lynn Donovan, executive director of the LahainaTown Action Committee, said, “We urge local businesses to support by donating and also decorating their storefronts with flags and buntings. Deadline for company logos on the official Lahaina poster will be June 8th.”
Fundraising progress can be tracked on the two goal banners located at the intersection of Lahainaluna Road and Honoapiilani Highway, and Shaw Street and Honoapiilani in Lahaina Town.
LAC hopes to increase the length of the fireworks show from the original ten minutes.
Sne Patel, president of LahainaTown Action Committee, said, “We want this year’s event to be bigger and better than ever. It will take the community and businesses’ support to help make that happen.”
Donation boxes will be available throughout Lahaina Town at local merchants, including the Pioneer Inn, First Hawaiian Mortgage, MauiGrown Coffee Store, Cool Cat Cafe and Captain Jack’s Island Grill.
Donations for the Fourth of July event can be made by calling the Lahaina Visitor Center at (808) 667-9193, or download the donation form at www.visitlahaina.com and mail it to LahainaTown Action Committee, 648 Wharf St., Lahaina HI, 96761.
