LAHAINA – Halloween in Lahaina will return to Front Street on Friday, Oct. 31, featuring traditional events that have made the celebration known around the world.

Hosted by LahainaTown Action Committee and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, the fete will begin with the 36th annual Keiki Halloween Costume Parade at 4:30 p.m. sponsored by Soroptomist International of West Maui, Lahaina Rotary Clubs and National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii.

Maui keiki are invited to come in costume and parade down Front Street to Banyan Tree Park, where they will receive a congratulatory ribbon and bag of treats.

The Lahainaluna High School Marching Band and Mayor Alan Arakawa and his wife, Ann, will participate in the festivities.

Front Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3:30 p.m. to midnight from Baker to Prison street. Street parking will not be allowed from 3:30 p.m. to midnight. In the impacted area, employees parked in lots that only empty onto Front Street will not be able to exit the lots between 3:30 p.m. and midnight.

Live entertainment sponsored by Aloha Self Storage Lahaina begins in Campbell Park between the Baldwin Home and Wharf Cinema Center at 6 p.m. featuring The Haiku Hillbillys.

Halloween in Lahaina is supported by Lahaina merchants and sales of the official Halloween T-Shirt on sale now at the Lahaina Visitor Center at the Old Lahaina Courthouse, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at Campbell Park on Halloween starting at noon.

Keiki activities, face painting, photo opportunities and food booths open in Campbell Park starting at 4 p.m. Activities will be held in the park until 10 p.m.

All are invited to join in the keiki activities at Campbell Park or enter the Costume Contest on Halloween night in Banyan Tree Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. at a Pioneer Inn retail store on Hotel Street adjacent to the main stage in Banyan Tree Park.

Honu Seafood & Pizza and Mala Ocean Tavern are sponsoring the contest and awarding the grand prize of $1,000. The emcee for the evening will be Angel O’Brien. Deejay Serna will spin tunes at the Costume Contest from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Darren Lee of “Burn’n Love” will perform from 9 to 9:30 p.m., when the contest winners will be announced.

LahainaTown Action Committee and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development aim to host a family-friendly event for the residents and visitors of Maui. Underage drinking, alcohol consumption and public nudity are prohibited.

The LahainaTown Action Committee Lost Person Tent will be located at Banyan Tree Park on the corner of Front and Hotel streets. Porta-Potties will be located throughout town, including Papaluau Street, Lahainaluna Road, the Fleetwood’s on Front St. alleyway, Market Street and Canal Street.

Transportation shuttles will be sponsored by Cheeseburger in Paradise Lahaina. The Lahaina Halloween Express will have shuttles departing from the War Memorial and Kihei Aquatic Center parking lots. Advance tickets are $5 each way, cash only. Check in at Campbell Park for available tickets not sold departing to Wailuku and Kihei Halloween night. Shuttles will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis for purchase and boarding. Round-trip or one-way tickets can be purchased at Super Stop on Dairy Road in Kahului, the Maui County Business Resource Center at Maui Mall and Blackie’s Pit Stop along Piilani Highway in Kihei.
