Sen. Roz Baker named ‘State Legislator of the Year’ by healthcare organization

“I’m honored to have been selected as the recipient of this award and thank my colleagues at the legislature and the advocates who work so hard to better the lives of the people of Hawaii,” said West and South Maui Sen. Roz Baker.
LAHAINA – State Sen. Roz Baker, who represents South and West Maui, was selected the “State Legislator of the Year” by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The global nonprofit strives to increase healthcare through information technology.
Each year, the organization selects a state lawmaker whose efforts demonstrate a significant contribution to the positive transformation of healthcare through the best use of information technology (IT).
Baker was chosen for her leadership at the Hawaii State Legislature in developing policies to ensure the state’s healthcare system utilizes IT to support healthcare transformation.
“It’s imperative that our society adapts to the changes that developing technologies bring to the table,” said Baker.
“Healthcare IT isn’t about the systems in place; it’s about making them work efficiently and effectively to help the people who need them most. Ensuring that our state policies do this is a commitment I made as a state lawmaker and chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection.”
