Gorgula to discuss tsunami marine debris

MAALAEA – Pacific Whale Foundation’s Making Waves Lecture Series will continue on Thursday, July 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with “Responding to Tsunami Marine Debris.”

Sonia Gorgula from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources will report on a protocol for responding to Japan’s tsunami marine debris based on data collected from Hawaii.

She will also lead a discussion on aquatic invasive species risks and surveys planned by the DLNR for the summer.

Admission is free; reservations are not required.

The presentation will take place at Pacific Whale Foundation’s Discovery Center on the lower level of the Maalaea Harbor Shops, adjacent to Maui Ocean Center.
