Lahainaluna graduate commissioned as second lieutenant at West Point

Ty VanderLaan stands at the West Point Pinning Ceremony on May 29 with his parents, Greg and Kim VanderLaan.
WEST POINT, NY – Second Lt. Ty VanderLaan, the son of Greg and Kim VanderLaan of Lahaina, recently completed his four years at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Ty is a 2010 graduate of Lahainaluna High School.
He will begin his training in July at Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
After the eight months of training, he will be stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu to begin his initial five-year commitment to the United States Army.
