Jim Fahnestock outlined Rotary’s mission before a crowd of 20 prospective members at Roy’s restaurant in Kaanapali.

KAANAPALI – The new Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset that needs 20 members to become a club attracted that number to a first organizational meeting last week Tuesday.

“The enthusiasm for the new evening club was infectious,” co-organizer Liz May of AAAAA Rent-A-Space said.

The club, which will be Maui’s tenth, is planning a unique approach to weekly meetings with two each month devoted to speakers, one to community service and a fourth to networking and socializing.

Co-organizer Jim Fahnestock noted the club is off to a fast start.

“We expected it would take five months to attract 20 members. Instead, we’ve nearly reached our goal in five weeks,” he said.

Guidance and support for the new club is being provided by the Rotary Club of Kihei Sunrise, including Assistant District Governor Joanne Laird and Sunrise Club President-Elect Joanne Doell.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is looking for a venue for evening meetings in the Lahaina and Kaanapali area.

More information on joining the club can be obtained by calling May at 669-5200 or Fahnestock at (808) 214-5282.
