Prince Kuhio Maui Ho‘olaule‘a slated in Banyan Tree Park

LAHAINA – The community will honor Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole at the 2014 Prince Kuhio Maui Ho’olaule’a on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Keawaiki (Banyan Tree Park).
The festivities are free and open to the public.
Known as “Ke Ali’i Maka’ainana,” or the Prince of the People, Prince Kuhio is remembered for his efforts to protect, preserve and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and his people.
Enjoy a fun-filled day under the shade of the historic Banyan Tree with something for the entire family.
The event will feature keiki crafts and activities, lei making with the Lahaina-Honolua Senior Citizens Club, mea’ai (food) by the Lahaina Hawaiian Civic Club and Maui Made crafters and artisans.

Emcee Makani Tabura will host the entertainment by Kaniala Masoe at 9:15 a.m., Dane Fujiwara & Friends at 10:20 a.m., Halau Kealakahinano’opuna at 11:30 a.m., Ka Huaka’i at 12:45 p.m., Lahaina-Honolua Seniors at 2 p.m. and Kulewa at 3 p.m.

On the same day in Central Maui, a free Prince Kuhio Day Celebration will be held in Paukukalo Hawaiian Homestead Park from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Open to the public, this drug- and alcohol-free event will feature entertainment, talent contest, food and crafts.
Informational booths are free if anyone wants to share their organization or educational benefits.
