LHS students qualify for state HOSA contest

Lahainaluna High School students in the Health Services Pathway advanced to the state Career and Technical Student Organizations Conference on Feb. 19-20 at the Hawaii Convention Center on Oahu.
LAHAINA – Lahainaluna High School students competed in the Maui District Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Competition at King Kekaulike High School on Jan. 20.
Students in the King Kekaulike High School, Lahainaluna, Maui High School and Kamehameha High School Maui HOSA chapters competed in the event.
Students who achieved qualifying scores in their respective events advanced to the state Career and Technical Student Organizations Conference on Feb. 19-20 at the Hawaii Convention Center on Oahu, where HOSA competitions will take place.
Winners at the state event advance to the National Conference in Orlando, Florida in June.
The Lahainaluna students participate in Malia Shimomura’s Health Services Pathway courses.
LHS state qualifiers include: Seniors (Directed Studies Class) Breea Yamat, first place, Healthy Lifestyle; Kirsten Gilchrist, first place, Extemporaneous Writing; Maile Amine and Lizelle Lazaro, third place, CPR/First Aid; Lorilei Visitacion and Kimberlie Ngyuen, second place, Health Career Display; Sherilynn Ramelb, third place, Dental Terminology; and Jessa Emmerich, second place, Job Seeking Skills.
Juniors (Clinical Health Class) Chantelle Baclay, first place, Human Growth and Development; Miyana Wagner, second place, Nursing Assisting; Jherene Arconado, third place, Nursing Assisting; Amateo Flores, first place, Sports Medicine; Nohealani Mahuna, third place, Sports Medicine; and Ennah Cabading and Maile Altier (senior), fourth place, CPR/First Aid.
