LahainaTown Action Committee honors first Emerita, Joan McKelvey

Joan McKelvey was presented with a proclamation by Mayor Alan Arakawa at the LahainaTown Action Committee’s anniversary celebration.

LAHAINA – LahainaTown Action Committee celebrated its 25th anniversary with a gala dinner at the Pioneer Inn on Nov. 15.

At the event, LAC announced its first Emerita, Joan McKelvey.

She was presented with a proclamation from Mayor Alan Arakawa. He also announced that Nov. 15, 2013 was “Joan McKelvey Day.” She was honored for all of her work over the years for Lahaina.

Later in the evening, McKelvey and LahainaTown Action Committee were given proclamations from the State Legislature by West and South Maui Sen. Roz Baker and Rep. Angus McKelvey, Joan’s son.

Organized by LahainaTown Action Committee Director Lynn Donovan, the event was attended by the current board members, many past board members and members of the Lahaina community. n
