Golf tournament raises $12,000-plus for foundation’s Travel Program

A Napili Kai Foundation group visited Washington State earlier this year.
NAPILI – The parents of the keiki of the Napili Kai Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, held a very successful second annual Golf Tournament and Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Bay Course at Kapalua and the Napili Kai Beach Resort’s Aloha Pavilion in order to raise funds for its Travel Program.
The proceeds of last year’s tournament – close to $11,000 – were used to accept the invitation of the Seattle Hawaiian Civic Club for 12 keiki, three kumu, three musicians and one chaperone to participate in their Aloha Mele Festival.
While there, the keiki also participated in several cultural exchanges with the Indian Nations and put on performances at the Asia Pacific Center and the Panorama Retirement Community’s beautiful theater. In all, nine performances in eight days! They also visited the State Capitol in Olympia.
For 47 years, the foundation has offered free instruction to keiki ages 6-18 in order to accomplish our mission to “perpetuate the cultural legacy of Hawaii through the children of Maui.”
The keiki perform weekly at the Napili Kai Beach Resort, thus sharing the culture and aloha of Hawaii with visitors and residents. The foundation also awards scholarships to its graduates to help them achieve their higher education goals.
The support from the community for our tournament was outstanding – more than $16,000 in prizes, in addition to a hole-in-one Ford Fiesta from Jim Falk Motors – and we would like to thank all of the people who helped the keiki raise more than $12,000 for the next trip. They are:
