Department of Water Supply warns of scam
WAILUKU – The Department of Water Supply would like to warn its customers of unauthorized phone calls for water bill payment.
DWS has received reports that someone claiming to be a department representative is calling customers and offering a discount on their water bill if they pay by credit card.
DWS utilizes an automated reminder system for late payments; however, employees do not call customers for payment.
In addition, DWS is not yet able to accept credit card payment, and water rates are set annually in the county budget, which does not provide for any discounts for water service.
Water bill payment is accepted at the County Building lobby, County Service Center at Maui Mall, and the DWS baseyards in Lahaina, Hana and Molokai.
The Service Center accepts checks only. More information is available on the second page of the monthly water bill.
Customers who receive suspicious calls regarding water bill payment should contact the DWS Fiscal/Customer Service Office at 270-7730 and the police.
