Theatre Theatre Maui play crossing over with MAPA’s ‘Les Mis’

Rory Delaney plays Ariel, the lead role in “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.”
KAANAPALI – Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM) will present public performances of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” at The Westin Maui Resort and Spa’s Haleakala Ballroom on July 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. and July 21 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door for $5 for kids under 12 and $10 for kids and adults 12 and up. For additional information, contact Angie Thompson at TTMWestMaui@aol.com or 661-1168.
TTM Program Director Kristi Scott said, “It’s such a joy to watch the kids grow and have fun. ‘Little Mermaid’ is not so much a story about a girl changing herself to get her man, but a girl following her own heart. She always felt out of place – even before she sees the prince.”
Speaking of Scott, several West Side performers are involved with Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ upcoming production of “Les Miserables.”
Scott joins fellow West Side connections Bunt Burkhalter, Annie Wilder, Sarah Mazes, Ivy Campbell, Penny Wakida, Deanna Pennington and Beth Garrow.
Performed live for the first time on Maui, this epic musical has thrilled audiences around the world for nearly three decades.
Based on Victor Hugo’s grand tale of love and redemption, “Les Miserables” features a cast of 80 performers and a 25-piece live orchestra.
Former Maui resident James Price, a tenor with extensive international experience in professional opera and musical theater who spent eight seasons with Hawaii Opera Theatre, plays the lead role of Jean Valjean.
Produced by MAPA and directed by David C. Johnston with musical direction by Robert E. Wills, the production also features well-known Maui performers Jerry Eiting as Javert, Leighanna Locke as Fantine, Lia Krieg as Eponine, and Kristi Scott and Dale Button as the Thenardiers.
The show will be staged Aug. 16-18 and Aug. 23-25 in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater. Call 242-SHOW for details on “Les Miserables.”
