SPCA offers ‘Forty Dollar Fix’ for dogs

By Staff | Jul 11, 2013

WAILUKU – SPCA Maui has extended its “Forty Dollar Fix” for Maui’s big dogs. Now through the end of July, SPCA will fix all dogs over 40 pounds for just $40, with surgeries performed at local licensed veterinarians.

Providing affordable “fixes” for Maui’s cats and dogs since 2009, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Maui is an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to a “no more homeless pets” Maui through accessible spay/neuter services for all.

“This big dog special should have made a significant difference in the number of large breed puppies entering our island shelter,” said SPCA Maui’s Peter Tierney.

“Large breed dogs have the biggest litters and cost as much as $500 to fix. Our Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) at SPCA Maui is designed to be quick, easy and no hassle, too.”

“Fixing pets before they have a litter is good for everyone,” said SPCA Maui President Sue Liscombe.

Fixed pets live longer, healthier lives, and being proactive keeps unwanted kittens and puppies out of the island’s shelter.
