LHS music students honored

Lahainaluna High School Music Performing Arts recently recognized these Concert Band/Choir/Jazz musicians for participating in the program for four years.
LAHAINA – Lahainaluna High School Music Performing Arts proudly presented five national music awards to outstanding students at the Music Department Banquet held at the end of the school year.
Jeannie Ramelb was presented the 2013 John Philip Sousa Band Award, which honors the top student in a high school band and recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication.
Created in 1955, the award was developed with the cooperation of daughters Helen Sousa Albert and Priscilla Sousa. It is the pinnacle of achievement for high school band students.
Nicholas Agdeppa and Mary Eileen Varquez Pineda were recognized with 2013 National School Choral Awards.
The highest honor for high school choral performers, the award recognizes the dedication and musical achievement of the top male and female choral students.
Bailey Pendergast was presented the 2013 National School Marching Award for her outstanding contributions to the Luna Marching Band.
Bailey was in the Marching Band for four years and exhibited excellent leadership skills as color guard leader the past three years.
Justin Lizada was presented with the 2013 Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. The award is presented to students for outstanding achievements in the field of jazz, as demonstrated through superior musicianship, character and individual creativity.
In addition, the following students from the Class of 2013 were awarded customized jackets: Leanne Alibin, Hayden Bogar, Shaylee Bonds, Lark Canico, Lakiesha Ching, Jolimar Espiritu, Sydney Fousek, Robert Griffith, Marla Ito, Justin Lizada, Kirstie Moore, Bailey Pendergast, Jeannie Ramelb and Kalani Stephens.
To qualify, the student must be enrolled in the Music Department for four consecutive years.
