Miss Maui Filipina Scholarship Pageant slated for Saturday

WAIKAPU – Beauty, talent and brains will be forefront at the 2013 Miss Maui Filipina Scholarship Pageant.

The event will feature four young and energetic candidates – Jhena Irene Batulayan Alipio, Heidianne Buted Allado, Rochelle Marie Dagdagan de Leon and Clarice Anne Cario – who will vie for the prestigious title of Miss Maui Filipina.

Sponsored by the Maui Filipino Community Council, the pageant will be held at Maui Tropical Plantation on Saturday, June 22. No-host cocktails start at 5:30 p.m., and the pageant program starts at 6:30 p.m.

Jhena is the daughter of John and Irenea Alipio of Kahului. She aspires to attend San Diego State University and earn a degree in business management.

Heidianne is the daughter of Feli and Edna Buted Allado of Kihei. She aspires to be an accountant and continue her passion for hula.

Allado

Rochelle is the daughter of Rosello Leonardo and Maria Luisa de Leon of Wailuku. She aspires to become an anesthesiologist and draws inspiration in life from her younger sisters.

Clarice is the daughter of Jennifer D. Cario and Christopher Lou G. Salcedo of Kahului. She joined the pageant to build her self-confidence. Clarice hopes that the pageant will give her the opportunity to meet new friends.

The candidates will compete in five phases of competition: a pre-pageant interview, swimsuit, talent, terno speech and on-stage interview.

During the terno speech phase, the candidates will deliver a prepared speech relating to the pageant theme of “Bridging the Past, Present and Future.”

Miss Maui Filipina 2013 will receive a scholarship award and round-trip ticket to the Philippines, as well as represent the Valley Isle in the Miss Hawaii Filipina Scholarship Pageant on Aug. 3 at the Courtyard by Marriott on Kauai.
