Foundation seeks Plantation-era sports artifacts for celebration

By Staff | Jun 13, 2013

LAHAINA – Lahaina Restoration Foundation seeks artifacts and memorabilia for its fifth annual Lahaina Plantation Days theme “West Maui Athletics of the Plantation Era.”

Spearheading the Plantation Life exhibit are chairmen Andy Kutsunai and Bob Kawaguchi, pillars of the Lahaina community and LRF board members for over 15 years.

“To bring to life an era that began over 100 years ago is no easy feat,” said Kawaguchi, chuckling.

“It will take the support of family, friends, businesses, organizations and the community to find artifacts that will recreate this period in time,” added Kutsunai.

The foundation requests help in providing photos, articles and artifacts, such as team uniforms, sponsor T-shirts, caps, equipment, little league uniforms, trophies and any other form of memorabilia reflecting West Maui athletics during the Plantation era.

All contributions will be handled with the utmost care and will be promptly returned following the event. Committee members are available to pick up items upon request.

With an array of restaurant food booths, carnival games, cultural exhibits, classic island music and much more, attendees will experience an era that helped shape Lahaina’s legacy.
