KAANAPALI – Blaze Kalilikane was an employee of The Masters at Kaanapali Hillside. On Dec. 19, 2012, Blaze died in a car crash on Honoapiilani Highway in Olowalu.
Blaze was a 2009 Lahainaluna High School graduate. To honor Blaze, Masters owners set up a scholarship, funded by donations from the owners, to award $1,000 to a Lahainaluna graduate.
Blaze’s mom, Keri, requested that The Masters bestow the award to a student athlete.
The 2013 recipient of the inaugural “The Masters at Kaanapali Hillside-Blaze Kalilikane Memorial Scholarship” is Jade Chihara, who plays basketball.
The Masters at Kaanapali Hillside intends to make this an annual scholarship.
