Technicians to check child car and booster seats

By Staff | Jan 24, 2013

LAHAINA – Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for children over one year of age. Child passenger restraints can reduce deaths by as much as 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers, but up to 80 percent are not installed or used correctly.

Is your child’s car or booster seat installed properly?

Through Kaiser Permanente, Child Passenger Safety Technicians certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will check all child car and booster seats for free on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Kama’aina Kids Lahaina Preschool at 553 Wainee St.

Kaiser will also give away free bicycle helmets to children getting their car and booster seats checked. Sizes and quantities are limited.

Appointments must be booked in advance by calling Kaiser Prevention Health and Education at 243-6187.
