LAHAINA – Maria Lanakila and Sacred Hearts Mission Church recently welcomed their new Parochial Vicar, Father Kuriakose Nadooparambil, from India.
He joined Pastor Fr. Joseph Pathiyil at the Catholic church based in Lahaina.
Parishioners at Maria Lanakila Parish have been anxiously waiting since July 2012 for Nadooparambil’s arrival and assistance.
As of July 2012, Bishop Larry Silva has entrusted the pastoral care of Maria Lanakila Church to the Missionaries of Faith Community.
Father Joseph has been at Maria Lanakila since August 2010. Both were born and raised in the State of Kerala, India – Father Joseph in Bethany Hills and Father Kuriakose in Kollamula.
The congregation of the Missionaries of Faith is a young congregation founded in Italy in 1982 (Canonically erected). Seven were the first Indian priests to be ordained for the congregation in 1988 following their theological formation in Italy.
Their mission in India was started in 1989 in the diocese of Eluru. The congregation expanded its mission to eight dioceses in the State of Andhra Pradesh and also in other states of India.
Currently, they are in 19 mission parishes and staff two Marian Shrines in India.
Lahaina now joins their various parishes in the U.S., which include Alameda, Sonoma and Sebaopol, California; Gallup, New Mexico; and Aokilo, New Foundland, Canada.
Their congregation’s Charism and Aim is to be at the service of the church, proclaim the love of God to all and to reach the perfection of charity through the personal sanctification in fidelity to the spirit proper to the institute.
The congregation’s motto is “Gratia et Gaudium in Fide” (Grace and Joy in Faith).
