LAHAINA – This year will mark the 34th celebration of the Keiki Halloween Costume Parade on Front Street.

West Maui Soroptimists are pleased to honor Ruth and Joe McKay as the grand marshals of the 2012 parade.

“Ruth McKay has been a member of the West Maui Soroptimists for 31 years and was a founder of this great keiki celebration,” said Jill Holley, a West Maui Soroptimist.

“Ruth continues to give back to her community year over year, and with her every step of the way is her husband of 58 years, Joe McKay.”

Set for Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 4:30 p.m., the popular parade is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lahaina, Rotary Club of Sunrise Lahaina and the Soroptimists of West Maui.

Keiki will line up on the corner of Papalaua and Front streets at 4:15 p.m. Maui keiki are invited to come in costume and parade down Front Street to Banyan Tree Park and receive a congratulatory ribbon and bag of treats.

Come meet Mayor Alan Arakawa and his wife, Anne, and enjoy music by the Lahainaluna High School Marching Band and attendants.

At Banyan Tree Park, keiki walk across the stage to show off their costumes and provide parents with an opportunity for pictures.

The three civic clubs are united to spread aloha in Lahaina and bring the community together for an event for keiki. Together, the clubs thank the Maui businesses that help with this safe, family event.

For the parade and the town’s Halloween celebration, Front Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and street parking from 3:30 p.m. to midnight from Baker to Prison streets.

Employees parked in lots with ingress and egress only on Front Street will not be able to exit the parking lots between 3:30 p.m. and midnight.
