LAHAINA – Fifteen days into the Rotary Club of Lahaina and Maui Friends of the Library facelift project at Lahaina Public Library, the first four contractors completed floor tile removal and painted the entire interior, keeping the project right on schedule.
Rotarian Sara Foley, project director, said she is “in awe” of the contractors’ enthusiasm and willingness to add work not part of their commitment.
“The contractors are as excited about this project as our many volunteer book packers and others who have stopped by to see the work.”
Representatives of Scott Brothers Pacific, the lead painting contractor, brought in one or more painters for six straight days.
JD Painting Hawaii arrived with a six-man crew the first day of their work and painted 180 windows.
Books were carted off by 5A Rent-A-Space, and The Westin Maui Resort and Spa contributed a good portion of the paint.
Aloha Mixed Plate provided two weeks of lunches for workers from Unitek and the painting companies.
The library project is scheduled for completion in October.
Work includes replacing the tile floor in the public area of the library, purchasing all new bookcases and computer tables, painting the interior and building a new circulation desk.
