Fire damages Kahana resort

KAHANA – Some 60 firefighters battled a blaze at the Valley Isle Resort all day on Monday, Sept. 3.

Estimated damages are $900,000 to the structure and $500,000 to the contents.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Maui Fire Department responded at 6:01 a.m. to the fire.

The 4327 Lower Honoapiilani Road resort was evacuated, along with adjoining buildings. The Red Cross was activated to assist displaced residents.

Maui Fire Department brought nine apparatus to battle the blaze.

The affected building housed Sports Club Kahana, a sauna, kitchen and offices.

MFD called the fire under control at 1 p.m. Resort guests and residents were allowed back into their units as of 3 p.m., utilizing the beach access only. Power was restored to the units but not the elevator service.
