LAHAINA – As the mesmerizing sunset beyond Lahaina Harbor marks the end of another beautiful day, Front Street will come alive with music, art, history, laughter and exploration on Second Friday on Aug. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m.

An opening blessing by the cast of ‘Ulalena Maui is set for 6 p.m. at the seawall across from Hard Rock Cafe.

This month’s Concert in the Park presented by LahainaTown Action Committee in Campbell Park (across from the Pioneer Inn) will feature Hawaiian music from 5 to 7:30 p.m. by Ron Hetteen, Damon Parrillo and Keali’i Lum.

Supporting several West Side keiki non-profits, Campbell Park will come alive with local ono grinds, baked goods and desserts from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Along Front Street, Hula Rock will have live Hawaiian music from 5 to 9 p.m.; The Shops at 505 Front Street will feature jazz by Gary Larson; the Pioneer Inn will host live music from 6 to 9 p.m.; Willie K will perform at Kimo’s from 9 to 11 p.m. (free admission coupons are available at the Lahaina Visitor Center to the first 30 people); David Paul’s Island Grill will host live jazz, island, reggae or contemporary guitar; Moose McGillycuddy’s Lahaina will bring in Visibly Shaken from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m.; Longhi’s will feature live jazz overlooking the water from 7 to 10 p.m.; Hard Rock Cafe will have live music with Evan Shulman from 6 to 9 p.m., plus “All is One” DJ Industry Night from 10 p.m. until closing; The Wharf Cinema Center will feature live music on center stage from 5 to 7 p.m.; Captain Jack’s Island Grill will host Bob Jones and the Drive from 8 to 10:30 p.m.; and Cool Cat Caf will have live music overlooking the Banyan Tree with Johnny Ringo from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

At the Old Lahaina Courthouse, LahainaTown Action Committee and Lahaina Arts Society will hold the awards ceremony for the 24th annual Lahaina Poster Contest. A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Old Lahaina Jail Gallery.

Explore Lahaina’s unique history with Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s “Ha’ina Hou – Let the Story Be Told” at the Baldwin Home and Wo Hing Museum on Front Street.

Fun feature films start at the Wo Hing Museum, 858 Front St., at 6 p.m. with “Finding Sandalwood Mountain.” This 90-minute documentary examines the lives of men like Chun Ah Fong (Hawaii’s Chinese Merchant Prince), Sun Yat Sen (the Father of Modern China) and Hiram Fong (the first Asian U.S. senator). Through hours of in-depth research and rare, never-before-seen interviews, you’ll learn the rich heritage and influence of the Chinese people in Hawaii, and how they overcame hardship and discrimination while forever changing the history of both Hawaii and China.

Come hit the surf at the Baldwin Home lawn at the corner of Front and Dickenson streets at 7:30 p.m. for a 20-minute film featuring surfers Rell Sunn, Clyde Aikau, Rabbit Kekai, Buffalo Keaulana and Alvin Ka’io sharing their knowledge of the history of surfing, canoe surfing, big wave surfing and popular surfing spots. Lilikala Kame’eleihiwa will perform a traditional chant to call for big waves, and Dennis Kana’e Keawe will introduce the art of holua sledding.

In addition, Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s popular candlelit tour of the Baldwin Home will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

A special “Ha’ina Hou” admission fee of $5 per person for the tour also includes a tour of the Wo Hing Museum. Children accompanied by a paying adult are free.
