Puukolii brush fire scorches 30 acres

KAANAPALI – Maui Fire Department responded to a brush fire near Puukolii Road on Sunday at 3:57 p.m.
Engine 3, Ladder 3, Tanker 3, Engine 11 and Air 1 were among the units on-scene.
By 8:30 p.m., the fire was called 50 percent contained.
Crews remained to monitor and mop up throughout the night. Approximately 42 firefighters worked on the fire.
The blaze got as close as 50 feet to Kaanapali homes.

Forty-two firefighters helped put out the blaze.
At 12:15 p.m. Monday, the fire was called 100 percent contained but not extinguished.
Crews will be monitoring the fire ground throughout the day.
The cause has not yet been determined. There were no injuries or damages reported.
