World War II-era landing craft, 19th century whaling vessels, submarines and sunken aircraft are among the wrecks found in Hawaii waters.

KAANAPALI – The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary will hold a free public photo show and talk called “History Below the Waves” by Hans Van Tilburg.

All ages are welcome to attend shows on Sunday, June 24, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Whalers Village Whalers Museum. Bring this article for free admission to the museum during the talks, plus parking validation, an $18 dollar value. Call 264-1316 for information.

Another talk is slated for Monday, June 25, at 6 p.m. at the sanctuary base at 726 South Kihei Road (call 879-2818, ext. 21).

Van Tilburg is an archeologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Sanctuaries Pacific Region Maritime Heritage Program.
