Lahaina Rotarians award $16,000 in scholarships

LAHAINA – Rotary Club of Lahaina President Eric van Ketel presented scholarships to Lahainaluna High School seniors Loa Uehara, Cheyenne Baltonado, Ashley Magno and Kelcie-Marie Naleieha at the May 9 Lahainaluna High School Senior Scholarship and Awards Program.

In addition to congratulating the recipients, President van Ketel reminded the audience that the Rotary Club of Lahaina’s annual Sweetheart Affair in February is the primary fundraising event for these scholarships.

He repeated the message at Maui Preparatory Academy on May 18, when he presented additional Rotary Club of Lahaina scholarship awards to Serena Motelewski and Cali Minami.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina also awarded scholarships to Molokai High School seniors Charisse Manley, LeeNell Hernandez and Mikayla Pilo for a total of $10,000 provided this year.

Lahaina Rotary Youth Foundation President Don Lehman presented scholarship awards to Lahainaluna seniors Loa Uehara, Mikah Franz and Kailani Amine at the May 9 event, and to Maui Preparatory Academy senior Serena Motelewski on May 18.

The foundation also awarded scholarships to Molokai High School senior Moriah Jenkins and Lanai High School senior Chloe Szelag for a total of $6,000 awarded.

The foundation scholarships are awarded to students who have shown academic excellance and an interest in a career in business.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina and Rotary Youth Foundation congratulate all the award recipients and wish them the greatest success as they continue in their educational adventures.
