Foundation holds special sale on commemorative bricks

Buy a brick at the Pioneer Mill Company Smokestack walkway by Aug. 15 to see it in place at the annual “Lahaina Plantation Days” event.
LAHAINA – In commemoration of its 50th anniversary serving the Lahaina community, Lahaina Restoration Foundation announced a special “two for one” sale on commemorative bricks that surround the Pioneer Mill Company Smokestack.
The sale will last through Dec. 31, 2012, and the deadline to have bricks installed by the annual “Lahaina Plantation Days” is Aug. 15.
“With more than 1,000 bricks installed, we hope to complete the brick walkway this year,” said Theo Morrison, executive director of Lahaina Restoration Foundation (LRF).
Four-inch by eight-inch bricks have three lines of text with 25 letters per line, and eight-inch by eight-inch bricks have up to four lines of text. Two 4-inch by eight-inch bricks are $125 at the new anniversary price, and two eight-inch by eight-inch bricks are $500. In addition, the larger bricks with company logos are available.
The second brick can be donated back to someone without the means to purchase their own commemorative brick if the purchaser does not want two bricks.
The smokestack has become one of Lahaina’s more popular historic sites.
Reading the names on the bricks in the walkway reveals the multinational melting pot that Lahaina has become today.
Brick order forms are available at www.lahainarestoration.org. Paper copies of the order form can be picked up at the smokestack, Plantation Museum at The Wharf Cinema Center, the smokestack display at Lahaina Cannery Mall and LRF office above the Baldwin Home Museum on Front Street.
In addition to providing a lease for the smokestack and the brick walkway, Kaanapali Land Management has generously provided temporary use of the area surrounding the smokestack for the new locomotive display.
LRF completed the restoration of the smokestack in 2010. For information, call 661-3262.
