Tickets go on sale for ‘Savor the Sunset’

Maui winds created a bad hair day for Rotary’s Liz May, but this didn’t stop her from displaying “Savor the Sunset” tickets on the ocean lawn of the Royal Lahaina Resort, where the event will be held.
LAHAINA – Tickets are now on sale for what some last summer called “the party of the year.” The June 22 third annual “Savor the Sunset” benefit for Lahaina Public Library will feature lively music, a wine tasting, great pupus and a quality auction.
Funds raised at this Rotary Club of Lahaina event on the ocean lawn of the Royal Lahaina Resort will go toward completing an extensive facelift of the 55-year-old Lahaina Public Library in association with the Maui Friends of the Library and the state library system.
“Since last year’s popular party was a sellout, it’s a good idea to order up tickets early,” said Liz May of 5A Rent-A-Space, who is Rotary president-elect and party planner.
Another Liz – Liz Bell of the sponsoring Royal Lahaina Resort and Rotary service chair – is chief coordinator of the setting, wine and food.
“We hope we can beat last year’s attendance record of 400 guests to put our fundraising over the top,” stressed Sara Foley, library facelift co-chair.
Mark Ellman of Mala Ocean Tavern and Honu has signed on as emcee.
Guests will have a chance to buy keys, one of which will open a special treasure chest. A silent auction will round out the giving opportunities.
Honored guests will include 15 contractors who have pledged $155,000 in no-cost services in a refurbishing project that will add a new floor, new circulation desk, new bookshelves and paint throughout Lahaina Public Library. Work on the facelift is scheduled to begin later in the summer.
Tickets are $50 in advance, $60 at the door, with tables of ten going for a bargain of $450. Purchases can be made at 5A Rent-A-Space (669-5200) or by calling the Royal Lahaina Resort at 661-3611, extension 2291.
