Sections of Front Street sewer line to be replaced starting May 7
LAHAINA – The county Department of Environmental Management last week announced plans for two sewer line replacement projects along Front Street in Lahaina in May.
The county is trying to minimize impacts to traffic in the area by scheduling night work and waiting until nearby schools are out for summer break to start the project.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and to take detours around the affected areas if possible.
The first project is located on Front Street near Kauaula Road.
Work is slated for May 7-28. During that time, construction crews will close down both lanes of Front Street from Kauaula Road to Aholo Road from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residential traffic will be allowed through the area.
The second project is scheduled for May 29 to June 19, starting at the intersection of Front and Prison streets.
Construction crews will work at night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and keep the area open to motorists during the day.
Crews will have to close a portion of Prison Street, from Front to Luakini streets, for daytime work. Road closures are slated for June 7-19 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Area residents have already been notified about noise from nighttime construction. For information, call Goodfellow Bros. Inc. at 879-5205.
