LAHAINA – “Second Friday” in Lahaina will officially launch on Dec. 9 with “Ke Aloha Kalikimaka i Lahaina” (The love of Christmas in Lahaina) from 4 to 10 p.m.
The holidays are a chance to spend time with family and friends and to celebrate many blessings, including community.
December is the season for giving, and in keeping with this great tradition, Lahaina Town merchants will decorate trees to be donated to needy families this holiday season.
The decorated trees will be on display this week. Vote for your favorite merchant tree through Dec. 9; one lucky voter will win a donated cruise for four from Trilogy.
Pick up your voting ballot form from any merchant displaying a “Needy Family” Tree, then drop off your vote at the Lahaina Visitors’ Center in the Old Lahaina Courthouse through Friday at 5 p.m. After 5 p.m., votes will be collected at Campbell Park along Front Street across from Lahaina Public Library.
Get into the holiday spirit at “Second Friday” and enjoy carolers, refreshments and activities for holiday cheer.
There will be great photo opportunities at Banyan Tree Park with the banyan decorated with lights.
While many Front Street venues feature live music, Campbell Park will host entertainment by area nonprofit organizations.
Stop in for ono grinds in the park beginning at 4 p.m. and enjoy entertainment with Ron Hetteen and Ikaika Brown at 4 p.m., Maui Cheer All Stars at 4:45 p.m., Royal Hawaiian Guard at 5 p.m., Kumulani Chapel at 5:15 p.m., Extreme Cheer at 5:30 p.m., I pop Maui at 5:45 p.m., Kumulani Chapel at 6:45 p.m., Akima ‘Ohana Christmas Show at 7 p.m. and Pacific Pride Girls Softball Team at 8:15 p.m.
Frosty the Snowman by Lahaina Ice Company will arrive at Campbell Park at 5:30 p.m.
The winning merchant tree will be announced at 6 p.m., followed by holiday caroling.
Meet Carlton Kinkade, the artist of the official 2012 Lahaina Poster. He will sign posters – featuring some of Lahaina’s honorable “Aunties” – from 4 to 6 p.m.
5A Rent A Space will offer complimentary picture frames and free photos with Santa.
At 6:30 p.m., Waiola Church, Hale Aloha, Maria Lanakila Catholic Church and Holy Innocents Episcopal Church will ring their church bells throughout Lahaina Town, as the trees are simultaneously lit along Front Street and in Campbell Park.
At The Wharf Cinema Center next door to the park, Lui Williams will perform on center stage from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by Na Kamalii O Ke Akua from 7 to 8 p.m.
And the Baldwin Home Museum next to Campbell Park will host “Holidays with the Baldwins” with a choir performance, refreshments and hands-on ornament- and wreath-making.
