Napili Kai Foundation awards $16,500 in scholarships
NAPILI — The Napili Kai Foundation’s 2011 scholarship awards were presented on June 7, following the organization’s weekly performance at Napili Kai Beach Resort.
The seven awardees are all graduates and alumni of Lahainaluna High School.
Chelsea Brink of the Class of 2011 received $2,000 — $1,000 from the J.C. Millar Scholarship Fund and $1,000 from the Perna Foundation for Hope. She will major in Business Administration at California State University, Fullerton.
Michael Lloyd Akiona received $1,500 from the Perna Foundation for Hope. Akiona is entering his second year at Kapiolani Community College, studying for a degree as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Caitlin Panis received the $1,000 Dennis Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship. She is entering her second year at the University of Hawaii Maui College, majoring in Photography. The late Mr. Wilkinson was a frequent visitor to Napili Kai Beach Resort.
Mitchell Ramirez Pascua, who received $2,500 from the J.C. Millar Scholarship Fund, is entering his junior year at the University of Oregon, majoring in Economics and Business.
Kamalu Kaina, who received $2,500 from the Perna Foundation for Hope, is entering his senior year at Menlo College in California, majoring in Mass Media Communications.
Dominique Laborte received $3,500 from the J.C. Millar Scholarship Fund. She is entering her senior year at Linfield College in Oregon, majoring in Athletic Training.
And Brittney Kalilikane received $3,500 from the J.C. Millar Scholarship Fund. She is entering her senior year at UH-Hilo, majoring in Psychology.
The 45-year-old Napili Kai Foundation is the oldest running keiki hula show in the State of Hawaii.
The foundation has been awarding higher education scholarships to its graduates and to the children of Napili Kai Beach Resort employee for over 20 years.
