Forty-six students are receiving daily vocal, dance and acting training at Lahainaluna High School in Theatre Theatre Maui’s 19th summer camp. This year’s program will ready them for performances of “Disney’s Camp Rock – The Musical.”

LAHAINA — Forty-six students from various schools on Maui, along with their dedicated and creative production team, have been fully immersed in a performing arts camp provided by Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM).

Now in its second full week, students enrolled in TTM’s 19th summer program have been receiving daily vocal, dance and acting training at the Music Building on the Lahainaluna High School campus.

This year’s camp will prepare them for performances of “Disney’s Camp Rock – The Musical,” presented in special arrangement with Music Theatre International of New York.

A team of theater professionals, well-versed in drama, music and dance, is led by TTM’s returning Summer Program Director Kristi Scott.

Joining Scott and sharing their creative energy and expertise with the students are Vania Lee Jerome, music director; Aly Cardinalli, choreographer; Derek Nakagawa, technical director; Eric Peterson, assistant director; and two students with ties to LHS, Camp Assistants Cody Ball (Class of ’08) and Kirsten Gilchrist (Class of ’14).

The student mix is new each year, with students who have completed third grade on up through high school. This summer’s group ranges in age from eight to 16.

During the final week of the camp, the production team, cast and families will move off the LHS camp location and transport props, costumes and equipment and set their stage at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali.

Following a few more days of rehearsals onsite, the ensemble will perform in the Haleakala Ballroom the evenings of Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16, with an afternoon finale on Sunday, July 17.

Theatre Theatre Maui is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Lahaina that is dedicated to bringing the performing arts to the students and adults of the greater West Maui community.
