LAHAINA — The Lahainaluna High School Foundation recently received a $10,000 grant award from American Savings Bank and Maui Electric Company for its stadium project.
The award, the second to come from MECO, will go toward the second phase of the stadium project.
Received in February 2009, the first award helped fund Phase I of the project, which included the new artificial turf athletic field, synthetic surface track and scoreboard.
The latest award will help fund the second phase of the project: construction of stadium seating, concession building, restrooms and press box.
“We recognize that academics enriched by exercise and a strong athletic program are essential to building well-rounded young adults,” said Maui Electric Company President Ed Reinhardt.
“The hardworking students and staff of Lahainaluna High School, as well as the West Maui community, deserve this facility, and MECO is proud to be able to help make this vision a reality.”
“We commend the Lahainaluna High School Foundation for its steadfast efforts to complete the Lahainaluna stadium project,” said Rich Wacker, ASB president and chief executive officer.
“The improved facilities will benefit Lahainaluna High School students and the West Maui community. American Savings Bank is proud to support this worthwhile endeavor.”
The foundation thanked Maui Electric, the Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation and American Savings Bank “for sharing our vision of providing the school and the West Maui community with this important facility. We appreciate their continued and generous support.”
