Sacred Hearts School Bazaar is about family fun
LAHAINA — A community tradition for nearly 40 years, the Sacred Hearts School Bazaar is set for Friday and Saturday, March 4-5.
The popular event will be held at the school’s campus on the corner of Wainee and Dickenson streets in Lahaina. Event hours are 4 to 10 p.m.
“The bazaar is West Maui’s prime spring event that draws thousands of people to come together to raise money for student education programs,” said Lisa Donlon, parent and one of the 2011 bazaar chairs.
“There’s so much to do and fun for everyone.”
Admission is free. Scrip may be purchased for a variety of bazaar highlights, including rides, games and food.
Now in its 39th year, the Sacred Hearts Bazaar is about family fun. Festival organizers will have rides and games for all ages.
Visit the classrooms for a variety of activities, including a silent auction in the first grade classroom; massages (second grade classroom); photo gallery (third grade); plant sale (fourth grade classroom and lawn); novelties (fifth grade); face painting, temporary tattoos and photo booth (sixth grade); and Grand Prix — get ready to race remote control cars around the track — in the eighth grade classroom.
Keiki will enjoy the Turbo Tubs, Saber Tooth and Iron Man Bouncers, Gladiator Play Zone and slides for all ages, including little ones.
Carnival games will include Pink Panther, Ping Pong Toss, Bottles Up, Flower Power, Pirate Plunder, Hula Hoop, Spout the Whale, Duck Pond, Fish Pond, Plink-it, basketball and football.
A Miniature Horse Petting Zoo will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Keiki will be able to see, pet, brush and play with the miniature horses in the Early Learning Center Play-yard.
This year’s entertainment slate includes Cliff Ahue and halau hula Na Maile Ku Honua, Brudda Waltah, Highway 30 and 1810 on Friday.
On Saturday, Na Kamalii O Ke Akua, An Den, Kohomua, Homestead and HHB will perform.
Back by popular demand is a beer garden sponsored by Maui Brewing Co. Located next to the entertainment stage and open from 4 to 10 p.m., the garden is a chance to enjoy 100 percent Maui beer.
Food booths will feature must-have bazaar favorites in malasadas, cotton candy, shave ice and ice cream, along with food booths by two of West Maui’s top restaurants: Outback Steakhouse and Leilani’s on the Beach.
Traditional plate lunches will round out the culinary treats, featuring savory pork and peas, shoyu chicken, chow fun and kalua pork plates for under $10.
