Rotarians to collect school supplies for Maui children and teachers

By Staff | Jul 15, 2010

On July 24-26, members of eight Rotary Clubs on Maui will spend the day at the entrances to businesses to collect school supplies for the children of Maui.

As patrons enter these stores, Rotarians will hand them School Supply Lists of items needed by our island keiki and teachers.

Store patrons are encouraged to purchase items on the list or make a donation.

Once collected, the Rotary Club members will divide and deliver the collected supplies and funds to community programs that help children in need and to individual schools on Maui.

Members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina and Lahaina Sunrise will collect donations at Longs Drugs at Lahaina Cannery Mall and Office Max at Lahaina Gateway on Saturday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Kihei-Wailea Rotarians will collect supplies at Longs and Safeway in Kihei on July 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Upcountry Rotarians will collect donations at Longs on July 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Valley Isle Sunset members will be outside Walmart on July 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kahului Rotarians will collect donations at Office Max in Kahului on Sunday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Rotary Club of Maui members will be outside Office Max on Monday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This is the fourth consecutive year that a School Supplies Drive has been sponsored by Maui Rotary Clubs.

The clubs agreed to hold their drives on these three days so that all local schools can receive the collected supplies at the start of the school year.

This island-wide School Supplies Drive is one of the many community service projects sponsored by the Rotary Clubs on Maui.

The eight clubs on Maui are part of Rotary Internationals’ global network of more than 32,000 clubs in 207 countries.  Rotary International consists of 1.2 million professional men and women who, as civic leaders, volunteer to improve the quality of life in their home and world communities.

For more information on these clubs, or to make a contribution for school supplies, contact Assistant District Governor Mark Harbison at 283-3785.
