Wine tasting event tonight to support Lahaina Public Library
LAHAINA — Prompted by a cover Lahaina News story on the need for refurbishing funds at Lahaina Public Library, the Rotary Club of Lahaina has sold more than 100 tickets for a fund-raiser tonight, July 8.
“The community clearly recognizes the need of the library to obtain private funds to help modernize and has extended amazing support,” said Sara Foley, West Side board member of the Maui Friends of the Library, a group that is also promoting the event.
“If you are reading Lahaina News on Wednesday or Thursday, it is still not too late to get a ticket for the special wine tasting at Royal Lahaina Resort,” Foley added.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. Advanced tickets are available by calling the Royal Lahaina Resort at 661-3611, extension 2291, or AAAAA Rent A Space at 669-5200 before 4 p.m.
The first-of-its-kind event will be held on the ocean view lawn overlooking Molokai and Lanai at the Royal Lahaina Resort, an event sponsor, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Heavy pupus will be paired with delightful wines sipped to the music of Josh Sumibcay.
Guests will also receive discounts from Royal Trading Co., a new wine store at the resort. Better Brands, another event sponsor, is providing the wines. Other surprises are planned.
The event will kick off a scheduled three-year Rotary community project. The club hopes “to raise funds each year to modernize library facilities by replacing furniture and adding other improvements to make our library a
facility we really can be proud of,” said event organizer and Rotary President-elect Carmen Karady.
“The whole community is invited,” Karady added. “You don’t have to be affiliated with Rotary to attend.”
Maui Friends of the Library, a nonprofit formed in 1912, operates a discount bookstore in Puunene and assists librarians in their work.
A large stock of quality books is available at the bookstore for $1 or less, with proceeds benefiting libraries island-wide.
