Student council installs new officers

Graduating senior members of the Maui District Student Council Organization (MDSCO) were honored at their final quarterly luncheon meeting at the Royal Lahaina Resort on April 21. In lieu of traditional lei giving, the group decided to bring in nonperishable food items to be donated to the Maui Food Bank in honor of their senior members. KAANAPALI — The Maui DIstrict Student Council Organization (MDSCO) recently installed new officers for the 2010-11 school year during students’ final quarterly meeting and luncheon at the Royal Lahaina Resort on April 21.
The new board was installed by outgoing officers Chair Rowena Buted of Maui High, Vice Chair Michela Moe of St. Anthony and secretary Emalee Cabading of Lahainaluna.
Incoming student body presidents and MDSCO representatives were also installed.
High schools involved with MDSCO include Baldwin, Maui High School, King Kekaulike, Lahainaluna, Hana, Lanai, Molokai, Kamehameha Maui, Saint Anthony, Seabury Hall, and Maui Preparatory Academy.
Aside from sharing information about school events and projects, the group also fosters problem solving with school concerns and performs community service projects.

Donna Vierra of Baldwin will serve as MDSCO advisor, Glenda Joyo of Maui High is the outgoing advisor, and Joe Balangitao, Maui Interscholastic League executive secretary, serves as a district liaison.
For the 2010-11 year, the group will focus on the American Heart Association with Hoops for Heart and the annual Youth Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.
