New flags fly at Lahaina Harbor
LAHAINA — Last Thursday at busy Lahaina Harbor, two new flags were raised.
Lahaina Restoration Foundation (LRF), in conjunction with its Malama Lahaina program, purchased an American flag and a Hawaii state flag to adorn the empty flagpole.
“This pole has been without flags for about a year,” said Cliff Corniel. “I’m pleased that the foundation recognized a need and stepped in.”
A Lahaina Restoration Foundation employee, Corniel works to maintain and beautify public open spaces and parks in historic Lahaina.
Bill Caldwell, president of the Expeditions Maui-Lanai Ferry, commented, “These simple gestures keep things in shape and send a message to visitors that we have pride in our town and island.”
LRF coordinates the Malama Lahaina program that is funded by the county Office of Economic Development and the Hawaii Tourism Authority. The program’s theme is, “Fix Up-Clean Up-Educate-Celebrate!”
