Carleton Kinkade wins ‘Way-to-Go!’ award

Using his bicycle as his only means of transportation on the West Side since 2004, Carleton Kinkade enjoys the sunny, slower pace of the bicycle over a car.
LAHAINA — Lahaina Bypass Now found a local community member to honor with its November “Way-to-Go!” award.
Carleton Kinkade, a Lahaina resident since 1990, can be seen riding his bicycle everywhere around town with his “Baby on Board” sign on his back, and nine-month-old “Little Carleton” enjoying a front row seat while strapped to dad’s chest.
Kinkade is a local artist who has everything he needs retrofitted on his bicycle, including his easel. He has no need for a car, unless he’s traveling to the other side of the island.
Launched in 2008, the “Way to Go!” award program recognizes community members and businesses that use creative and alternative forms of transportation in their commute or daily life.
Sponsored by Maui Tacos, Penne Pasta & Mala Ocean Tavern, Way-to-Go! winners receive a $20 gift certificate to one of the sponsoring restaurants.
Way to go, Carleton, for using this alternative form of transportation.
