LAHAINA — Over 70 merchants and friends of Lahaina Restoration Foundation (LRF) enjoyed lunch aboard the Golden Princess last week while the ship was anchored in Lahaina.

This luncheon was a kickoff for the second annual Malama Lahaina event scheduled throughout Lahaina for the next three weeks. Princess Cruises hosted the lunch for the community.

Activities for Malama Lahaina — with the theme “Fix Up, Clean Up, Educate, Celebrate!” — continue through the first week in December.

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, a free presentation by Bank of Hawaii titled “Internal Fraud Prevention” will be held at Longhi’s from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Complimentary coffee and pastries will be served. The public, and especially businesses, are encouraged to attend. Reservations can be made by calling LRF at 661-3262.

Lahaina will be scrubbed from stem to stern on Bath Day to be held on Friday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 a.m. on Front Street. Residents and merchants will hit the sidewalks armed with hoses and scrub brushes to take off months of dust and grime. There will also be four power washers to help do the job. Call 661-3262 to sign up.

A full schedule of Malama Lahaina events is available at www.lahainarestoration.org or by calling 661-3262.

Malama Lahaina is coordinated by Lahaina Restoration Foundation and sponsored by the County of Maui Office of Economic Development and the Hawaii Tourism Authority. Additional support came from Princess Cruises and Bank of Hawaii.
