Holiday Farms Christmas trees off to Maui for sale by Rotarians

By Staff | Nov 12, 2009

Flown to trimming, wrapping and loading points, noble fir Christmas trees are available on pre-order from the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise. The trees are on the way in refrigerated containers (to retain freshness) from Holiday Tree Farms in Corvallis, Oregon.

LAHAINA — Anticipating delivery of a large number of six-foot noble fir Christmas trees from Holiday Tree Farms in Oregon, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise is taking pre-orders at an advance sale price of $60 through Nov. 15.

Noble firs are known for their freshness and fragrance. The million trees shipped by the farm include 20,000 sent to Hawaii.

The fir trees will be available for pickup Nov. 27 to 29 along Honoapiilani Highway adjoining Lahaina Cannery Mall.

Holiday cuts the top-of-the-line Christmas trees, takes them by helicopter to a packaging site, wraps them and places them in refrigerated containers that get an extra dose of ice before they are closed and shipped off to Kahului Harbor.

“Although the trees cost a little bit more, our customers know they can be decorated right after pickup, because they will last throughout the holiday season,” said club President Charles Keoho.

“The Rotary trees are expected to sell out early this year, because their quality until now has been a well-kept secret,” Keoho said. “This year, we are letting people know where the trees come from, and how the refrigeration process keeps them fresh from the day of cutting to the day of delivery.”

Fund-raising proceeds are used each year to purchase dictionaries for Lahaina grade school children and for a new program that provides a new fiction or nonfiction book to one worthy student every week.

Tree tickets can be obtained from members of Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise, Carlson Wagonlit Klahani Travel, Saltwater Signs (around the corner from Pizza Hut) or by calling Juergen Will at 661-3335 or Robyne or Jerry Downer at 667-6712.
