Fall wellness classes slated at West Maui Senior Center
LAHAINA — Be fit and fabulous this holiday season! Kaunoa Senior Services will offer a variety of exciting wellness classes for everyone ages 55 and better at the West Maui Senior Center in November.
A $2 donation is payable at each class session. Call the Kaunoa West Maui office at 661-9432 to register and receive a monthly activity newsletter and listing of ongoing classes and special events.
Beginning Tai Chi will be held Mondays from 10 to 11 a.m. Tai Chi Chuan is a low-impact Chinese exercise that uses a series of postures and slow movements that help to improve balance and flexibility. Tai Chi offers a variety of physical and mental benefits, and it’s popular around the world as a form of gentle exercise.
Meditation will be offered Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. A healthy lifestyle includes a proper diet, physical exercise and activities to nourish your mind and spirit. Meditation can help you to manage stress and reduce its negative effects on your body. Learn how to increase your focus and concentration.
Stretching and Toning is set for Tuesdays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. This entry level fitness class with experienced instructor Cassidy O’Donnell will increase your flexibility, improve your health and help you look your best this holiday season.
Beginning Ballroom Dance: Holiday Classics will be held on four Tuesdays from Nov. 24 to Dec. 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Festive fox trots and winter waltzes will keep your holiday spirits high and your winter weight low. This dance class is for beginners only. Bring a partner or come and make new friends. No new students after the first session (Nov. 24). Cost of $15 is payable by Nov. 10.
Weights and Stretching is set for Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Improve your strength, flexibility and posture with Carmen Karady. Carmen will teach you how to safely incorporate weights into your daily exercise routine for a more intense and effective workout.
Cardio Countdown is slated for Thursdays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. You’ll get your heart pumping in this high-energy class. Bring a towel, comfortable clothes, soft-soled shoes and bottled water to each session.
Basic Yoga will be held Fridays from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m., along with Beginning Yoga Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Chair Yoga Thursdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The benefits of yoga can be felt after just a few sessions. Yoga can tone your muscles, improve your posture and flexibility, focus your mind and improve your concentration. Students are encouraged to bring their own mats and bottled water.
Beginning Pilates will be held Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m. Improve your strength, flexibility and posture with pilates. Karady will introduce you to basic pilates techniques and elastic band workouts. Elastic bands will be provided.
Low-Impact Aerobics will be held Fridays from 8 to 9 a.m. Cassidy O’Donnell’s popular aerobics class will improve your cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and flexibility. Bring a towel, comfortable clothes, soft-soled shoes and bottled water to each session.
