Art classes slated at West Maui Senior Center
LAHAINA — The holidays are right around the corner! Is your budget tight this Christmas? Make your own unique gifts for friends and family this year!
Join one of the West Maui Senior Center’s holiday art classes and make this a Christmas to remember.
Everyone age 55 and better is welcome to enroll today. Call the Kaunoa West Maui office at 661-9432 to register for classes and join the mailing list to receive a complete listing of Kaunoa’s activities.
“The Picture Perfect Gift – Exploring Oil Painting” with Mona Harris will be held on Mondays from Oct. 5-26 from 10 a.m. to noon. Harris will guide you through the process of painting a landscape, floral arrangement, still life… whatever you choose to capture on canvas for your special someone. The class fee of $30, which includes some supplies, is due by Oct. 3.
“Holiday Portraits in Pastel” with instructor Peggy Robertson will be held on Thursdays from Oct. 8-29 from
10 a.m. to noon. Astonish your friends and family! Present them with a family portrait you’ve painted yourself. Bring in your favorite picture and start painting! You will help mat and frame your masterpiece. The cost of $30 includes some supplies and is payable by Oct. 6. A list of additional supplies and frames will be available on the first day of class.
“The Gift of Watercolors” with Robertson is slated for Tuesdays from Oct. 6-27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Why buy your holiday cards? Make this holiday special and give a personal gift that will mean more to your loved ones than any store-bought present. Share your own one-of-a-kind, hand-painted watercolor cards with family and friends. Robertson will share tips and techniques on how to prepare your painting for printing. Cost of $25, which includes some supplies, is payable by Oct. 2.
“Simple Sewing” will be held Monday, Oct. 5, and Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. Share your interest in sewing with that special young one in your life. In this intergenerational class, you’re invited to create a simple patterned lap blanket with your keiki in a fun group setting. Bring three yards of fabric of your choice. You are encouraged to bring a portable sewing machine to class, as limited sewing machines are available. All other supplies will be available at class. Cost of $10 is payable by Oct. 2.
