Cravalho cousins open new ice business in Lahaina

LAHAINA — Micah and Seth Cravalho, first cousins from Haiku, recently opened Island Ice Company, a revolutionary concept in ice vending, at Lahaina Cannery Mall.
With the convenience of drive-through service, the Ice House produces a fresh crushed ice product in 16-pound bags or 20-pound bulk ice in about eight seconds.
As their motto implies, “Twice the ice at half the price,” the 16-pound bag or 20-pound bulk ice sell for just $2.50.
The machine also dispenses reverse osmosis-purified cold water for 25 cents a gallon. Customers bring their own bottles.
Micah and Seth are committed to running a business that will benefit the local community.
“Because we don’t have the overhead costs of a normal ice manufacturer,” explained Micah, “we are able to pass the savings on to our customers.”
The cousins are happy that they can provide an affordable, quality ice product to local fishermen.
“I like it because it is so convenient and so cheap. I come here before I go fishing or to the regattas to fill up. I no need stand in line, and I’m back in my car in a minute,” stated Dart Labajo, a local waterman.
Island Ice Company donated 500 pounds of ice for the recent “Redo the Imu” Tailgate fund-raiser at Lahainaluna High School. The cousins are committed to supporting the local community, and encourage non-profits, schools, sports groups and others to contact them with their ice needs for upcoming fund-raisers.
“We are two local boys who love doing business with local people,” explained Seth. “Supporting local community groups in their fund-raising efforts is a core part of our business philosophy.”
The Ice House, which produces 16,000 pounds of ice a day, is located at the south end of Lahaina Cannery Mall with easy access from the south mall entrance near Longs Drugs.
There is a well-lit parking area next to the Ice House, and the vending machine, which also accepts credit cards, operates 24 hours a day.
The Cravalho cousins have the distributorship for the Ice House concept for the State of Hawaii and plan to open locations in Maalaea Harbor and Kahului Boat Ramp in the coming months. They also plan to install nine more Ice Houses on Maui and many more across the state.
