Jocelyn Michelle Jazz Organ Band to perform at ProArts Playhouse

KIHEI — On Saturday, Dec. 16, the Jazz Maui 2023 Maui Music Festival presents the Jocelyn Michelle Jazz Organ Band featuring Jocelyn Michelle playing the Hammond B3 organ along with guitarist John Rack, drummer Sammy K, saxophonist John Zangrando and trumpeter Paul January.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the ProArts Playhouse at 1280 S. Kihei Road in Kihei. Tickets are available at www.ProArtsMaui.org.
The Hammond tonewheel organ, produced from 1935 to 1975, was one of the first mass-produced musical instruments that combined the electrical, mechanical and acoustic worlds.
It is a keyboard instrument that could produce totally new sounds, and at the same time, imitate other acoustic instruments.
Considered by some to be the “grandfather of electronic music,” from gospel to blues, from rock concerts to jazz clubs, the Hammond organ was truly revolutionary.
The Jazz Maui 2023 Maui Music Festival is supported by Hawaii Tourism Authority through the Community Enrichment Program and by Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau. For more information, visit www.JazzMaui.org.
