KIHEI — “The White Hawaiian,” starring Eric Gilliom, announces a monthly showcase at ProArts Playhouse in 2023.

This smart and witty one-man show first debuted in 2019 to sold-out audiences at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Following its initial success in 2020, “White Hawaiian” did it again at Mulligan’s on the Blue in Wailea with more sell-out shows and rave reviews.

In 2022, Gilliom reprised his roles to audiences at the ProArts Playhouse in Kihei.

With this huge success, the show returns to ProArts Playhouse most months throughout 2023 with this schedule: March 30 to April 2, May 18-21, June 16-18, July 20-23, Aug. 17-20, Sept. 14-17, Nov. 16-19 and Dec. 14-17.

“The White Hawaiian” was written by Gilliom and Brian Kohne. It’s based on Gilliom’s famous family history and his career as an entertainer.

Furiously donning outlandish wigs with gaudy costumes, the story unfolds from his great-grandparents to his grandparents on down to his parents, then seamlessly into growing up with his six-time Grammy-nominated sister, Amy Hānaiali’i Gilliom.

The reliving of his career highlights and follies make this a full-circle story that is rich and entertaining.
