Violinist Gregory Walker and his wife, pianist Lori Walker, proudly carry on the tradition of the Walker Duo.

KIHEI — Ebb & Flow Arts (ebbandflowarts.org) will herald the New Year with a concert on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Keawala’i Congregational Church at 5300 Makena Road.

Ebb & Flow Arts will present violinist Gregory Walker and pianist Lori Walker, the Walker Duo of Colorado, in an exciting program of diverse music.

Included are works by America’s favorite composer, George Gershwin (as arranged by legendary violinist Jascha Heifetz). Selections include “It Ain’t Necessarily So” and “Summertime.” Also featured will be pieces by the late composer George Walker, the first African-American to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Music, and African women composers Dorothy Rudd Moore and Irene Britton.

The show will also feature a special surprise!

Admission is free. There will be a pre-concert discussion at 6:30 p.m.

The Walker Duo was founded by Gregory Walker and his mother, the late Helen Walker-Hill, an eminent pianist and music historian. She famously researched music by well-known as well as rarely heard African-American women composers.

Gregory Walker and his wife, pianist Lori Walker, proudly carry on the tradition of the Walker Duo. Gregory has gained international recognition for his “beautifully calibrated phrasing,” “ravishingly beautiful” tone, and the “sheer virtuoso force” of his performances.

Pianist Lori Wolf Walker has been a frequent prize winner in piano and violin competitions throughout the southwestern United States.

“Dr. George Walker served as Honorary President of Ebb & Flow Arts until his death at 96, in 2018,” said Robert Pollock, executive director of Ebb & Flow Arts. “So, we are thrilled to bring from Colorado George’s son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Lori, who now comprise the Walker Duo.”

The Keawala’i Congregational Church community will provide food and beverages in a post-concert reception for the Walker Duo.
