Jazz stars to honor Gene Argel with ‘Gene’s Dream Band’

Jay Thomas (left), renowned trumpet and saxophone player from Seattle/Tacoma, and Bruce Hamada, bassist and vocal artist from Honolulu, will join Gene Argel in his “Dream Band.”

WAILUKU — Sara Gadarian of Maui Sara Jazz, longtime promoter and provider of jazz on Maui, has announced a special event to celebrate Gene Argel’s 62 years of performing jazz and blues on piano, keyboards and Hammond B3 organ.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, at Maui Coffee Attic at 59 Kanoa St. in Wailuku, “Gene’s Dream Band” will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. The featured artists are Jay Thomas, renowned trumpet and saxophone player from Seattle/Tacoma, and Bruce Hamada, bassist and vocal artist from Honolulu.

Band members included are musicians who have appeared with Gene Argel on Maui for over 40 years: Sal Godinez, piano and vocals; John Zangrando, saxophone and flute; Paul Marchetti, drums, and Shea Argel, percussion.

Argel will be sitting in with his “Dream Band”.

Tickets are $25 each via https://mauicoffeeattic.com/tickets, and seating is limited.
